Abstract

Parents want the privacy of their children, including their young adult children, protected. This includes treatment records for addiction. But bit by bit, the confidentiality protections of these records are being eroded. Late last year, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published a 260‐page Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on changes to 42 CFR Part 2, a regulation which protects the confidentiality of treatment records for alcohol and drug use disorders.
