Abstract
A negative binomial model is applied to the occurrence of defects in discrete intervals of time to similar equipment fitted to a fleet. The data may be left censored, and the number of items at risk may vary from one time interval to the next. A likelihood approach is adopted for the estimation of parameter values, and a method is suggested by which confidence limits for the reliability estimate may be calculated.
