Abstract

This paper studies the relationship between trust in parties and the transformation of electoral competition in Latin America. It explores the contrast between scenarios of stability with consecutive winners and scenarios of change with new winners. It shows that scenarios characterized by transfers of support from one party to another are usually associated with variations in the levels of trust in political parties.
