Abstract

ABSTRACT The author ponders the submitted responses to a set of informal opinion surveys: One survey constructed to learn preferences as to choice of entry for serials among catalogers; another to assess the perceived effectiveness of standard OPAC display patterns for periodicals information among public service librarians. E-mailed comments from respondents as well as formatted survey responses are considered. While a large number of cataloger respondents indicated a belief in the potential of latest entry to improve access for users, a significant number voiced concerns over workload and/or workflow issues related to choice of entry, and a significant number favored maintaining current successive entry practice. Among public service respondents, a large number expressed concern about dissatisfying experiences had by users in accessing periodicals information in library catalogs.
