Abstract

An appraisal of the problems of gauge calibration is given in conjunction with a brief report on a one day conference on this subject which was held at the National Physical Laboratory. A number of papers dealt with the calibration procedures themselves, such as the static gas expansion and the dynamic orifice methods, as well as variations of these. Other contributions were concerned with the use of the interference manometer and McLeod gauge as reference standards, the anomalous ion currents in ionisation gauges and the use of an ionisation gauge as an impact pressure probe to monitor the gas flow in a calibration vessel.
