Abstract

Supernumerary teeth mainly affect permanent dentition located in the anterior maxillary region. Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial to minimize esthetic and functional problems of the adjacent teeth. Other side effects caused by late treatment of dental crowding are multiple impacted permanent teeth, root resorption, median diastema, eruption of a tooth into the nasal cavity, and the formation of odontogenic cysts and tumors. A 9-year-old boy presented with absence of maxillary anterior teeth. A periapical radiographic examination revealed 3 supernumerary teeth causing impaction of permanent incisors. Cone beam computed tomography analysis confirmed the effective location of the supernumerary teeth and aided surgical planning. After the treatment, the use of space maintainers was avoided to allow spontaneous eruption of permanent incisors. The patient is being followed up and will be referred for dental treatment for esthetic and functional treatment.
