In December of the same year, Smith et al 2 Smith G.I. Brennan P.A. Webb A.A. et al. Vertical ramus osteotomy combined with a parasymphyseal mandibulotomy for improved access to the parapharyngeal space. Head Neck. 2003; 12: 100 Google Scholar described a double mandibular osteotomy to enhance the exposure of the parapharyngeal space with possible access up to the skull base. They have carried out this technique in 3 cases of carotid body tumors that extended toward the skull base.
