Abstract

summary The relationship between condylar asymmetry and handedness of dentate patients with temporomandibular disorders was investigated. A group of 28 patients (22 females and 6 males) was studied. The mean age was 28.29 years, with a range from 10 to 54 years. The association between handedness and the sign of the condylar asymmetry index was examined using Fisher's exact test. No difference was found between sign and handedness (P>0.05). This suggests that handedness does not affect the asymmetry index in this group of patients.
