Abstract

Abstract The molar conductivity of iron(II) sulfate, FeSO4, in water was measured in the temperature range 10–35°C. Data were analyzed by the Quint–Viallard equation, and the resulting ion association constant, KA, was applied to the Bjerrum equation to determine the contact ion size, RB. The limiting ionic molar conductivity of iron(II) at 25°C is λ0(1⁄2Fe2+)=53.8 S cm2 mol−1. Thermodynamic properties of ion association reactions are ΔG298°=−13.7 kJ mol−1, ΔH°=9.7 kJ mol−1, and ΔS298°=78.0 J K−1 mol−1.
