Abstract

The effects of molecular organization in spread monolayers on AC conductivity at the air-water interface have been examined in systems of Al and Zn phthalocyanines mixed with dioleoylphosphatidylglycerol. While it is observed that conductivity decreases with increasing surface concentration under all conditions, it may be seen that certain phthalocyanine-lipid ratios produce marked enhancement of this effect. These results are interpreted in terms of changing orientation of the macrocycle ring which effects ring-water surface interactions and demonstrates the sensitivity of surface conductivity to molecular organization.
