Abstract

Anomalies were found in electrical conductivity and specific heat at the two-step transition in the stoichiometric YFe 2O 4. It is concluded that the transition is a new type of Verwey transition: i.e., ordering of ionic charge, Fe 2+ and Fe 3+, accompanied by lattice distortion and antiferromagnetic spin ordering.
