Abstract

This article draws a light-hearted comparison between projects and musical adventures. In this allegory such musical words as conducting, theme, variation and instrumentation are applied to project management. The parable begins with an introduction. The A minor scale then symbolizes the phases in project life-cycle. Conducting music shares many features with project management. The text concludes with a cadence as in music. The message is that referring to music—even in lighter tones—can bring out a number of serious points about the way people view and organize themselves in project management.
