Abstract

Liquid–gold nanoparticles: A single-step, scalable-method synthesis is demonstrated for gold-nanoparticle-embedded organic-molecule-based hexagonal nanostructures (see image) by using a room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL). The rods were obtained by dissolving chloroauric acid in the RTIL and the aspect ratio can be altered by changing the molar ratio of RTIL to chloroauric acid. The rods exhibit unique current–voltage characteristics and may find applications in organic electronic devices.
