Abstract

The conductance of nicotinium dichromate in the temperature range 283–313 K in aq-DMSO have been measured and the data have been analyzed on the lines of Kraus–Bray and Shedlovsky equations. ⋀o, the limiting molar conductance increase with increase in water in the solvent mixture. The influence of mixed solvent composition on the solvation of ions is discussed with the composition dependence of Walden product. KA, the association constants are used to bring out the information about the influence of solvent composition on various equilibria present in the solution. The Gibbs free energy of association process, ΔGa, is found as a function of solvent composition. The results of the study are deduced in terms of ion–solvent interactions and solvent properties.
