Abstract

Theoretical calculations have shown that the electron-hole liquid (EHL) should be stable in diamond. Its ground-state energy, equilibrium density and workfunction are computed and the critical temperature is estimated. Calculations take into account the split-off valence band. Conditions favourable for the formation of an EHL in diamond are discussed, and these indicate that the experimental observation of an EHL would prove extremely difficult.
