Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the contribution of stress fractions to the Reynolds shear stress corresponding to each quadrant event across the scour mark around the static short cylinder placed over a sand bed transverse to the flow. The distributions of mean-time fraction, probabilities of occurrence of turbulent events, and the probability densities of streamwise and vertical velocity components over and within scour mark at different longitudinal locations are presented. The probability density distributions of streamwise and vertical velocity components are verified with present experimental data for the plane surface as well as in the scour mark and the results are found in good agreement with a little discrepancy within the scour mark.
