Abstract

The present work refers to a case study related to the environmental impacts caused by mining and prospecting activities, aiming to describe the transformation impacts of the typical landscape of the Caatinga do Seridó Potiguar Biome, in the municipality of Ecuador, state of Rio Grande From north. In this study, the impact on local biodiversity due to mining and kaolin extraction was studied. The scenic beauty is our focus of study as well as studying ways of mitigation to restore the natural state of the Seridó landscape. As discussions and results, Payment for Environmental Services (PES) is presented as an appropriate form, given the advance in the regulatory frameworks of payment for environmental services projects, as well as the dissemination of knowledge about this instrument.
