Abstract

The function of the thermal diffusion cloud chamber in the downward regime was verified on the basis of comparison of the “downward” and “upward” critical supersaturation of vapours of stearic acid. It has been verified experimentally that in the downward thermal diffusion cloud chamber it is possible to reduce substantially the effect of phoretic forces by increasing the pressure of inert gas. Thus the thermal diffusion cloud chamber in the downward regime is suitable for studies of nucleation in vapours of low volatile compounds.
