Abstract
The condensation of oxygen on Ni(111) has been investigated by means of coadsorption of oxygen and hydrogen. The initial sticking coefficient of hydrogen as a function of preadsorbed oxygen is a sensitive probe of the structure of adsorbed oxygen. It is found that on the average one island of oxygen nucleates in an area of about 40-50 AA in diameter.
