Abstract

A novel dual band millimeter wave antenna has been designed that covers two different frequencies of W band (75 GHz to 110 GHz). The antenna structure consists of two parasitically coupled patches and a stepped impedance slot in the feedline. The two resonant frequencies are 83 GHz and 94 GHz, that are used for high data rate communication and millimeter wave imaging applications, respectively. The return loss bandwidth at 83 GHz is 6.6% (5.45 GHz) and at 94 GHz is 3.4% (3.2 GHz). The simulated gain at two frequencies is 8.4 dbi and 8.9 dbi at 83 and 94 GHz, respectively. Further, a scaled antenna prototype is fabricated and measurement results are compared with the simulated ones.
