Abstract

Abstract Measures of reported crowding and comfortable interpersonal distance were obtained in India for 480 husband-wife pairs equally drawn from four levels of density and three income groups. It was expected that reported crowding would vary according to level of density, but that gender and income would not be influential and that density, income, and gender would affect preferred comfortable distance. These predictions were supported.
