Abstract

The occurrence of aggression in young children needs to be considered in terms of the nature of aggression shown and the relationships of which the children are a part. First, this entails subdividing the category “aggressive behavior” into subcategories of different types of aggression, which leads to the consideration of the motivational propensities underlying them. Second, the actor and target's characteristics, the influence of children's familiarity with each other, the context they live in, and the social concomitants of aggression must be considered.
