Abstract
The International Federation of Social Work asserts that the principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility, and respect for diversities are central to social work as they reflect its core values and principles. As countries continue to recover and strive to create stronger and more equitable systems, social work involvement can help to assure that disparities are rectified in societies that are inclusive and the rights of all are recognized. Social work scholars have asserted that applying a human rights approach to research and evaluation with vulnerable populations must move beyond deductive and quantitative ways of knowing. Part of every social worker’s journey ideally involves cultivating critical consciousness as the mental picture of the connection between the personal and political. The profession recognizes that the promotion of human rights and social justice are core concepts that are critical for both individual and social development.
