Abstract

The conclusion draws together the key themes and arguments of the book. It provides an overview of the aims and memberships of the five voluntary women's groups in the 1960s and discusses the links between these groups and the emerging Women's Liberation Movement. The significant contribution of voluntary women's groups to the history of the women's movement is reiterated. The activities of these groups are placed within a broader European context and it is argued that the years 1928-64 can no longer be regarded as a ‘silent period’ in the history of the women's movement in Britain.
