Abstract

The aggravation of corruption and underdevelopment of Nigeria resonates in practical terms on the African continent and can be seen in the high levels of poverty, prohibitively high unemployment rates, gargantuan illiteracy, massive youth restiveness, terribly intractable terrorism, persistent and desperate outmigration, and recurrent violent crimes, not only in Nigeria but on the continent. If such movements are not to be repeated in Nigeria, with their gains and losses as shown by this book, corruption must be brought to its barest minimum if not completely eradicated in Nigeria. All scholars, policy makers, students, governments, development partners, citizens of Nigeria and other concerned entities must show more interest in understanding and stopping corruption and invest more in research on how corruption has kept and continues to keep Nigeria, the giant of Africa, fast asleep in an underdeveloped state.
