Abstract

This chapter reviews the key discoveries of this study on the Korean peace process and discusses a potential comprehensive peacebuilding strategy for the Korean peninsula, with which diverse actors, including government, civil society and the international community can improve coordination and cooperation for sustainable peace. This chapter argues that a viable peacebuilding strategic framework in the Korean peninsula, based on an exploration of the meaning of peace for the diverse groups in the conflict, and an analysis of their needs within the context, is required to develop a sustainable platform for people to build just and peaceful relationships. If linked with this strategic framework, comprehensively agreed to by all concerned actors, including North Korea, there is a better chance for the diverse civil society actors in the Korean peace process to contribute toward a denuclearisation process, better inter-Korean relations, and improved quality of life and human rights of citizens in both North and South Korea.
