Abstract

Second language acquisition multimodal and gesture research is a relatively new field (over the past 30 years), and much more needs to be investigated. As this book illustrates, there are numerous ways of conducting multimodal and gesture research in SLA with many opportunities for future studies. Some of these are mentioned in the chapters. Additionally, studies that have been conducted examining only speech can and should be conducted examining both speech and gesture. Also, more multimodal and gesture studies with participants of various proficiency levels and in a variety of languages are needed. The possibilities are endless.
