Abstract

A severely flattened pyramid characterizes the structure and determines the reactivity of the Rev complex 1, which is formed upon reaction of tetramethyltin with [(η5-C5Me4Et)ReCl4]. Lewis bases can attack at the trans position to the π-bound ring system of 1 and its η5-C5Me5 analogue. This finding could contribute to an understanding of the role of Sn-cocatalytis for olefin metathesis.
