Abstract

Reviewing the literature has the potential to be both complex and nuanced, not least because this topic straddles the confines of more than one academic discipline. On one hand sits the subject area of leadership studies, which itself is multidisciplinary in nature.1 However, political leadership can be considered as a sub section of the more broadly based subject area and for the purposes of this book the emphasis here has been concerned with political leadership only.2 The other body of literature falls within the broad, multidisciplinary subject area of peace and conflict studies and, in particular, that literature which focuses on conflict resolution and peace processes — both generally and in particular.3
