Abstract

This symposium will showcase contemporary research on creative industries and cultural markets, focusing on the different ways that management scholars and sociologists study outcomes in this domain. Four scholars will present empirical work that (1) conceptualizes distinct out-comes that are meaningful to both creative industries researchers and practitioners (including creativity, innovation, status, success, and career trajectories), and (2) measures these outcomes in new and interesting ways. Then, two leaders in the field will offer their perspectives on these projects drawing connections between them, highlighting their relative strengths and weaknesses, and proposing avenues for future research. The symposium will end with audience Q&A, which we hope will evolve into a collective conversation about ongoing research in this area.
