Abstract

This chapter lays out the book’s research design, methodology, and standards of data collection and analysis. The chapter presents and justifies the book’s methodological decisions being aware that there are no perfect choices, just commensurate ones to the goals of the research. In that regard, I argue that I can leverage important variation over time and across policies within a single national context and that studying military and judicial reform in Albania is an appropriate way to gain a fuller understanding of institutionalisation and engage existing institutionalisms with emerging democracies. Lastly, the chapter identifies content and discourse analysis as two appropriate methods to analyse the data in an empirical and replicable way.
