Abstract

Ayurveda is the science of holistic approach of body and mind. It has its own concept of developing organs in the human body. The liver is the largest vital organ of the body which has both exocrine, endocrine, hemopoietic and phagocytic properties and plays an important role in body metabolism. Acharya has mentioned that the Yakrut (liver) is originated by Rakta Dhatu (blood tissues). In the concept of conventional manner of liver anatomy, the blood is responsible for formation of sinusoids of liver. The large quantity of blood comes from broken vitaline and umbilical veins in septum transversum. In other concept the raw material for formation of blood and cells of liver is the same being mesenchymal cells from mesoderm. In the present review that shows the similarities to genesis of liver is same as ancient and modern concept.
