Abstract

Semantic Web technology is widely used and extends the promised benefits for intelligent web applications development. Today, almost all web applications are integrated with Semantic Web technology. This paper presents a Semantic Web based approach to build a digital library content management system using ontologies. The Semantic Web technology promises to enhance the efficiency of web applications. The key purpose of such system will facilitate an easy and efficient way to manage the resources of information digitally by integrating the metadata and ontology which is capable for managing of the resources and its information in distinct formats. A group of the integrated ontologies will be used to represent the information related to library resources, where Resource Description Framework (RDF) and RDF Schema (RDFS) and OWL (Ontology Web Language) are used to store and manage domain knowledge. In the current digital era, we expect that the proposed system will achieve some major expectations especially sharing of knowledge and information across the system, universally linked representation of knowledge and achieve the vision of artificial intelligence as well as Semantic Web. This paper proposes a conceptual framework to develop a Semantic Web based Digital Library Content Management System using ontologies that can generate enough informative and meaningful results on searching for information by the users.
