Abstract
This paper examines the potential of Creative Commons (CC) for the wider creation and diffusion of creative work and open educational resources (OER). Through a conceptual review approach, 'innovation' and 'issues' about the use of CC licenses are explored. CC is a viable option for creators to showcase innovative and creative work, and publish and distribute contextual OER on diverse subject matter. It accelerates collaboration and participation in a community of practice (CoP). However, readiness to share work under CC licenses is crucial for wider open educational practice (OEP).
