Abstract

In this paper, a molecular communication inspired solution to the development of patients’ digital twin models to enable the implementation of precision medicine (PM) is proposed. The proposed solution considers the modeling and analysis of the intercellular communication network of body cells as a complementary in silico approach to enable a timely and patient-specific PM procedure. Fundamental submissions that motivate the idea of the proposed model are presented. Further, based on the ideas behind two global projects, the computational whole-cell model and human cell atlas, a graph-theoretic model that is an abstraction of an organism’s cell-to-cell network is developed. The graph network can represent the digital twin model of a patient. By characterizing and analyzing the graph network, the application of the digital twin model is explored. Simple illustrative examples and the ensuing graphical results are used to explore the gains of the proposed digital twin modelling approach.
