Abstract
Conceptual design study of accelerator-based transmutation system with liquid TRU-alloy target and molten-salt blanket was performed at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute within the framework of the OMEGA program. This system was designed to transmute transuranium (TRU) and long lived fission products from ten or more 1000-MWe class LWRs to reduce the long-term risks from disposition of the high-level radioactive waste into a deep geological formation. System concept of the system were described here and result of neutronics calculation for liquid TRU-alloy target/molten-salt blanket system was presented.
