Abstract

In this paper, we present results of numerical experiments performed as a part of a conceptual design study of a large orbit gyrotron (LOG) with an axis-encircling electron beam formed by a novel electron gun with permanent magnet system. The results of simulations indicate the feasibility of a compact LOG with low current and low accelerating voltage operating on TE/sub 41/ mode at fourth harmonic. The required magnetic field is produced by NdFeB permanent magnet and additional coils for fine tuning of the field strength at the gun and cavity regions.
