Abstract

The use of energy storage wheels, for high power, future European application satellites (85-95) are investigated. EOS requires 500W, LCS needs 1.5kW, TVBS needs 5kW to power full payload in eclipse, during 5-7 years. Characteristics of ESW's are reviewed for 1-axis and 5-axis bearings. Use of ESW for energy storage and /or control purposes is envisaged.Conceptual design of integrated energy storage and attitude control system is made, demonstrating the feasibility of such system.
