Abstract

According to the IEC 61968 standard, the Distribution Management System (DMS) software consists of various sectors such as distribution network operation, operational planning and optimization, records and asset management, maintenance and construction, network extension planning, customers support, meters reading and control. This paper has focused on a conceptual design for two sectors of the DMS: 1) distribution network operation and 2) operational planning and optimization. In the presented design, the primary goal has been dedicated to design the DMS to be able to operate the distribution networks with the minimum data received from the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system; and have the capability to improve the network efficiency if more data would be available. The necessary application systems for optimal operation of distribution systems are introduced in this paper. The relationships between different application systems are discussed; then the tasks of each application system and its implementation are provided.
