Abstract

The development and advancement of computer technology continues at an ever increasing rate. The mine design and planning process can be greatly aided by the application of many computer techniques. Work has therefore been directed by the Department of Mining Engineering, University of Nottingham to developing a modular computer aided mine design and planning system to enable research into the application of these techniques. This paper describes some of the concepts being employed in the development of this software covering a wide range of areas relevant to the computer based mine planning and design processes. Included in the paper are sections on databases, interactive graphics, modelling, stimulation, environmental studies, and the application of expert systems to mine planning systems.
