Abstract

This paper seeks to clarify the principles behind preparing a piece of literature for a Readers Theater production. Three guiding concepts—symbolism, synecdoche, and metonymy—will be used to explicate (1) the adaptation of the script, and (2) the production decisions. The Bell Jar, a fictionalized autobiographical novel by Sylvia Plath, serves as an exemplar throughout the paper.
