Abstract

AbstractThis chapter focuses on the nature and importance of conceptions in human life and education. First, the chapter discusses the nature of conceptions generally and in the context of education. Then it articulates a sociocultural approach to conceptions. This approach is complemented here by complexity theory, in order to explore how cultural and environmental factors play a role in the dynamic processes of teaching and learning, and in the development of conceptions of education that influence teacher practices and student experiences.KeywordsConceptionsSociocultural theoryComplexity theoryCultureExaminationsTesting
