Abstract

Monitoring the state of health from fetus and mother is a very important task during labor and delivery. This paper describes a sensor circuit concept for the transabdominal non-invasive fetal reflectance pulse oximetry. Potentially superior to previous techniques is the possibility of monitoring the fetal oxygen saturation and heart rate. The wavelengths for such a system are in the red and near infrared range. We investigated the optical transmission properties of representative biological tissue for different wavelengths. With this a hardware concept was designed and a prototype measurement setup developed.
