Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the concept of spirit and consciousness of one of the outstanding world thinkers – Abu Nasr al-Farabi.His name is associated not only with a certain number of scientific discoveries of the Middle Ages, but also with the development of educational socio-philosophical thought in the countries of the Middle East. The article deals with the issues of cognition and cognitive activity of a person, reveals the structure of the cognitive process and, exploring the “types of the soul”, shows the ratio of mind and imagination in the philosophy of al-Farabi.
