Abstract

ABSTRACT Concept maps are effective tools designed to summarise prior knowledge by capturing the organisation of key concepts. While common in various areas of research, the value of concept mapping for articulating future trends and directions within and across tourism knowledge (sub)domains is under-explored. Consequently, this short commentary develops a relational concept map of research on visitor attitudes to tourism to stimulate discourse on the benefits and limitations of concept mapping in tourism. The benefits and limitations of concept mapping for articulating progress and trends in tourism knowledge (sub)domains are presented. Future research should critically assess the potency of visual techniques for mitigating conceptual ambiguity in tourism knowledge (sub)domains.
