Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study the concept of «fire» on the basis of phraseological units. The object of analysis is the phraseological units of the modern Russian language with a component verbalizing the concept of «fire». The subject of this research is the features of the objectification of this concept in Russian. The methods of direct observation and description was used in the work, as well as the method of cognitive and cultural-background interpretation. The result of the study is consideration of the concept of «fire», which turned out to be more voluminous than the substance of the same name, because actualization of the meaning of the image of fire is realized in a significant amount of language means. In addition, the mental phenomenon «fire» in modern Russian is expressed by a multitude of lexical units that can be represented as a field and grouped. Therefore, the field of the concept is perceived by us as an articulated set of language tools in which the described cognitive phenomenon is «scattered». Findings. The concept is considered as a multidimensional culturally significant socio-psychic entity, objectified in one or another linguistic form. This means that the concept is multidimensional, has a «layered» structure, and different layers are the result of the cultural life of different epochs. Moreover, the concept does not fully reflect its entire interpretation field, is partly non-verbalized, because, being the result of cognitive activity, the concept does not manage to fulfill the conceptualization and categorization of the whole life of a word that nominates various phenomena of reality — the results of internal (mental) and external (material) world of an objective reality. The practical value of the work lies in the fact that the results of the study can find application in courses of lexicology, semantics, as well as in courses of linguoculturology.
