Abstract

In this paper, a special design of Uniform Concentric Circular Array (UCCA) is proposed to improve directions of arrival (DoAs) estimation accuracy in fully correlated sources situation. The Centro-symmetry propriety of the introduced antennas shape, as well as each of its subarrays, allow us to develop a Modified Forward/Backward Spatial Smoothing technique (MFBSS) to remove signals' coherence. The excellent performances of the uniform circular geometry are used to provide a good and uniform DoAs estimation in all of the azimuth coverage. Simulation results, using the MUSIC algorithm, show that applying the MFBSS technique with the proposed antenna array shape yields significant improved performances in DoAs estimation especially in highly correlated sources situations.
