Abstract

A novel technique for the analysis of volatile trace organics in aqueous solutions has been developed. Concentration of organics is performed by passage of the solution being analysed through uncoated hydrophobic capillaries as previously reported. The concentrated organics are then thermally desorbed into a cold trap and subsequently analysed by gas chromatography. The water vapor being coeluted during desorption is selectively removed by the use of a membrane dryer. Quantitative analysis of trace organics in aqueous samples has been successfully carried out in this manner.
