Abstract

The results of concentration measurements of atmospheric sulfur dioxide and sulfate particles carried out near the Earth's surface under background conditions are compiled. The data for continental (mainly Europe and North America) and oceanic (mainly Atlantic Ocean) areas are discussed. On the basis of the available information the sulfur quantities in an air column and in the whole atmosphere over continents and oceans are calculated. Some data on the H 2S concentration in the air are also presented.
