Abstract

Pregnenolone, progesterone, testosterone, 5α-dihydrotestosterone, estrone, estradiol and their hydrolysed products were measured in homogenates of normally metamorphosing Sarcophaga bullata by means of radioimmunoassay. Peak variations were observed only for pregnenolone and estrone. Free and conjugated pregnenolone and estrone concentrations were measured in exactly timed puparia treated with methoprene. Pregnenolone content oscillated between 400–4000 pg/g fresh weight in control puparia, whereas it remained relatively constant at 2000 pg/g in treated insects. Methoprene treatment had negligible effects on estrone concentrations.
